He served honorably in the Korean War for the U.S. Navy from January 5, 1953 to December 21, 1956, returning to Grand Island after his discharge. Moe worked most of his life in auto parts sales, owning and operating Sidles Company, Mr. Automotive until 1989 after which he continued working for several auto parts businesses until retiring in 2019. Moe never new a stranger, he loved sharing stories and jokes with everyone and would help anyone who needed it. Everyone called him Moe. Marlene died July 23, 2012.
Moe was involved in drag racing with his son, Steve and had his own race car called "slo Moe tion". They spent weekends on the road traveling to races. His racing friends were all part of his family. Before he retired, he loved buying wrecked vehicles and fixing them, his children never drove a vehicle that wasn't repaired by his hand, with his own personal touch. He loved animals and had a special love for Corgis. They were just as much family to him as people. He loved gardening and being outside, his daily walks in Stolley Park with his dog, Annie, he loved cooking and was especially known for his famous baked beans. Moe loved the Huskers, especially the volleyball team.
He loved his grandchildren and taught them many of life's important things like fishing and hunting, and going on vacation.
He adored and loved all his great grandchildren.
Moe said he wanted to live to be 100. And we believed him after surviving three bouts of colon and lung cancer. With his last illness, he said he is like a bump on a log and not even a good bump. God had other plans for him.
