Ellen M. Kuta, 79, of Grand Island, NE died Sunday, November 12, 2023, at her home. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, November 17, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island, NE. The Rev. Bandha Suresh and Rev. Thomas A. Ryan will concelebrate. Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery immediately after mass. Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7pm. Ellen was born February 22, 1944, in Omaha, NE. She was the daughter of Leon "Leo" B. and Marie A. (Wroblewski) Krajewski. Ellen grew up in Ashton, NE attending St. Francis Catholic Grade School and graduated from Ashton High School in 1962. She moved to Omaha, NE after high school and was employed with Central States Insurance. Ellen married Francis G. Kuta in Ashton, NE on April 4, 1964. The couple lived in Omaha a short time before moving to Grand Island in June of 1964. Ellen worked at a Ceramic Tile Factory, Delicious Foods, Richmond Gordman, and Principal Financial Group before retiring in 2001. Ellen's family was her whole world and she always looked forward to spending time with them. She was her children's and grandchildren's number one fan, following all of their sports and school activities and attending whenever she could. She always welcomed her children's friends into her home and many of them referred to her as "mom." Ellen was known for having a sassy attitude and loved to joke around. She enjoyed traveling when the opportunity arose, and spent many weekends going on camping outings with family and friends in her younger years. Each year Ellen canned much of the produce that Francis harvested from their garden and she enjoyed sharing her canned goods with her family. Her "Grandma Pickles" were a favorite of her grandkids, nieces and nephews. Ellen was also known to occasionally try her luck at the slot machines in the casinos. Ellen was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral for 59 years. Ellen is survived by her loving husband, Francis G. Kuta of Grand Island, NE, and her children, Frederic "Fred" (Susan) Kuta of Edgar, NE Franklin "Frank" (Karen) Kuta of St. Libory, NE Jenifer "Jeny" (Chris) Cantrell of Malcolm, NE Sister, Glenda "Fritzi" Baker of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Brian (Alayna) Nowak, Erika (Shelby) Pahl, Andrew Kuta, Jared Kuta, Addison Kuta, Justin Kuta, Abigail Cantrell, Joshua Cantrell, and six great grandchildren. Brothers-in-law, Dave Shelnitz of West Haven, CT and Melvin Legg of Doniphan, NE. Ellen is preceded in death by her beloved parents and her sisters, Barbara "Bobbi" Shelnitz, and Jacquelyn "Jackie" Legg.
