Obituary

Elizabeth F. Armstrong, 96, of Grand Island, NE, died Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Golden Living Center Park Place. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski Jr. will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Seneca, Kansas with a committal service at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016, from 5 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Elizabeth was born February 15, 1920, at Manhattan, Kansas. She was the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Bird) Fitzgerald. Survivors of the immediate family include her son, Chris Armstrong of Grand Island, NE Daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Rollie Hilst of Peoria, IL Four grandchildren, Justin, Jason, Jessie and Christopher Three great grandsons, Syluss, Landon and Alex Elizabeth grew up in Manhattan, KS graduating from high school there in 1938. After school she was a secretary for the high school. She married Archie E. Armstrong on December 27, 1945, in Manhattan, KS. They lived in St. Louis, MO, where they adopted their two children, Mary Beth in 1961 and Chris in 1963. In 1972 they moved to Grand Island. Elizabeth was a tour guide for Stuhr Museum for many years. Archie died January 11, 2010. She was a member of St. Marys Cathedral, volunteering for many activities, was a long time member of the parish choir, and helped with many Knights of Columbus activities alongside her husband. She enjoyed her garden club and bridge club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie, brothers, Alan, George, James and Bob Fitzgerald and a sister Maxine Allsup.
