Edward Duane Ulrich died peacefully in his sleep Friday night March 1, 2013 due to complications of several heath issues over the past 12 months. He was 75 years old. Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church located at 518 W. State Street Grand Island, NE, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday March 6th 2013. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Ed was born to Carl and Rose Ulrich of Plattsmouth, Nebraska on November 26th 1937. He was the second child of three. He was very active in high school and well liked amongst his friends as he garnered the nickname Banjo that continues today in select circles of good friends. He played football for the Plattsmouth Blue Devils and he graduated from the Plattsmouth High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Army where he spent time in Korea along the DMZ. Afterwards he returned to work at the Allied Chemical plant in La Platte. He worked the graveyard shift and painted houses during the day. He then sold construction equipment for Big Bear in Bellevue. Later he began to work for Lien Chemical Company as a salesman and route man.
Ed moved his family to Grand Island Nebraska in 1971 while working for Lien as they expanded to Central and Western Nebraska. He ran a route from Bellevue to Ogallala. He continued to work for Lien Chemical Co. for another 10 years before embarking in his own business Air-Rite Co in 1981 and continued to work seeing his customers every two weeks until 2011.
Ed joined Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church soon after arriving in Grand Island and faithfully attended church on a weekly basis. He dedicated himself to the church as an usher for four decades and always made extra sacrifices for his Church and for God.
Ed is survived by two brothers, Jerry and his sister-in-law Germane Ulrich of Lancaster California and Carl Ulrich of Omaha Nebraska, his ex-wife Darlene Ulrich of Omaha, his son Thomas W. Ulrich and a daughter-in-law Marilynn from San Diego California, his son Scott E. Ulrich and daughter-in-law Paula from Denver Colorado. His grandchildren are Alexander and Chloe Ulrich of Omaha and Quincy and Abigail Ulrich of Denver Colorado.
Ed will be laid to rest in Plattsmouth Nebraska to be closer to his parents and family that have already been laid to rest.
