Dorothy M. Pfeifer, 76, of Grand Island, NE died Monday, December 6, 2021, at Brookefield Park in St. Paul, NE. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, December 13, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Martin L. Egging will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a vigil service at 6 p.m. The family requests Husker red attire in memory of Dorothy. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Dorothy was born April 20, 1945, in Loup City, Nebraska, the daughter of Daniel and Theresa (Makowski) Bydalek. She grew up in Ashton graduating from Ashton High School in 1963. She married Leonard Skorniak on June 16, 1965, in Ashton, NE. To this union four children were born, Roger, Rick, Sheila, and Stacey. They lived in Ashton later moving to Grand Island, NE. Dorothy had various jobs until working for Cargill in the warehouse and bartending at the White Horse Tavern. Mr. Skorniak died in 1982. Dorothy married Charles "Chuck" Pfeifer on May 9, 1992, in Grand Island where they made their home. Mr. Pfeifer died in August of 2002. Dorothy's favorite pastime was visiting the casinos. She loved playing the slots and keno. She was an avid Husker fan, she enjoyed watching Husker football and volleyball. She liked to dance, enjoying polka music the most. She truly loved being involved with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her children, Roger Skorniak of St. Paul, NE Rick (Kim) Skorniak of Gibbon, NE Sheila (Rob) Osborn of Grand Island, NE Stacey (Larry) Dirks of Lincoln, NE Step children, Rick (Julie) Pfeifer of Jacksonville, FL Lori Pfeifer of Grand Island, NE Kelly Ortiz of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Brooke (Paul) Johnson, Kevin (Morgan) Osborn, Shayla (Jerrod) Puncochar, Danielle Skorniak, Sara Dirks, Luke Dirks, Jenna (Justin) Griepenstroh, Kaden Skorniak. Six great grandchildren and numerous step grandchildren.
