Obituary

Dorothy A. Koehler, 73, of Omaha, NE, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, October 29, 2015, at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, following several courageous battles with cancer. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Monday, November 2, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leos Catholic Church, in Grand Island, NE. The Rev. Donald A. Buhrman will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, November 1, 2015, from 4 7 p.m. at St. Leos Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Dorothy was born December 4, 1941, in Spalding, NE, to Daniel and Anna (Seaman) Bykerk. She married Robert J. Bob Koehler ll on July 24, 1965 in Grand Island, NE. To this union three children were born, Robert Joshua lll, Carla Jean, and Stephanie Anne. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Robert on September 17, 2015, and a brother, Joseph. Survivors of her immediate family include her husband, Bob of Omaha, NE Daughters, Carla Koehler and Stephanie Koehler both of Omaha, NE Grandsons, Joshua Koehler, Jerad Forrest and Leonidas Freeman all of Omaha, NE Brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Loretta Bykerk of Phillips, NE Edward and Sonja Bykerk of Taylor, NE Paul Bykerk of Greeley, NE James Bykerk of Orchard, NE Sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Lynn Douglas of Sutherland, NE Eileen and Roger Deiterman of Brighton, CO Carol Shuda of St. Paul, NE Elizabeth Betty Buresh of Valparaiso, NE Rita and Jerry Keezer of Downs, KS Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed by all. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Spalding. She attended Spalding Academy and graduated in 1959. She was employed at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island for several years, before moving with her family to Omaha in January of 1978. She worked at Hartford Insurance then was a secretary at Millard South High School for 22 years. She enjoyed her familys annual trips to Niobrara State Park for 20 years, and times spent camping. She was proud of her Irish heritage and looked forward each year to attending the Greeley Irish Festival in Greeley, NE. She was more than a fair-weather fan for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and did her share of cheering and armchair coaching. Most of all she cherished time spent with her family and friends. She was a member and Eucharistic Minister at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to the familys choice.
