Obituary

Donnie D. Don Muir,87, of Grand Island, NE, formerly of Republican City and Naponee, NE., died Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Golden Living Center Park Place, surrounded by his family. Services will be Saturday, September 7, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Pastor David Wietzke will officiate. Burial will be in the Naponee Cemetery at Naponee, NE with a 12:00 noon committal service. A lunch will follow the committal service at the Naponee Auditorium. Visitation will be Friday, September, 6, 2013, from 5 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Don was born March 3, 1926 on a farm south of Republican City, NE. He was the son of Robert Henry and Lillian Fae (Richter) Muir. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife Margaret Muir of Grand Island, NE Sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Rita Muir of Grand Island, NE Rocky and Mary Muir of Grand Island, NE David Muir of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish his memory include his 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Four stepsons, Kevin Briand of Abilene, KS Bobby Briand of Abilene, KS Kenneth Briand of NC Keith and Linda Briand of North Wilkesborn, NC One sister Darlene Haines of North Platte, NE Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Don grew up in Republican City attending District #42 and Naponee High School. He farmed after high school. He married Gertrude Fisher in March of 1946 at Harlan County. Don worked at a gravel pit and in construction. He married Margaret Voelker on July 27, 1967, at Franklin, NE. They lived in Abilene, Kansas where Don worked for a steel factory, retiring in 1982. After retiring, Don spent his winters in Texas and summers in Grand Island. While in Grand Island he often helped his sons with their drywall business. Don enjoyed visiting family and friends, playing cards and puzzles. He had a great wit and was always ready with a joke. He was a member of the Eagles Club. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the familys choice. He was preceded in death by daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Butch Eddy, two great grandchildren, Jaden Muir and Abel Ortiz, a brother and sister-in-law, Bobbie and Jackie Muir.
