Obituary

Donald Brent Rapien, 68, of Grand Island, NE, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at his home with his family at his side. Memorial services will be Monday, November 28, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at United Congregational Church. The Rev. Lonnie L. Logan will officiate. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Curran Funeral Chapel, from 4 7 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2011. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Brent was born December 16, 1942, at Grand Island, Nebraska. He was the son of Donald G. & Marguerite (Pfluckhahn) Rapien. Survivors of his immediate family include his wife, Sally Rapien of Grand Island, NE Two sons and a daughter-in-law, Samuel B. Rapien of Lincoln, NE Matthew D. & Camey Rapien of Grand Island, NE One brother & sister-in-law, Randy & Marianne Rapien of Grand Island, NE Four sisters & two brother-in-laws, Joan & Lee Freeman of Redding , CA Barbara Dalland of Owatonna, MN Susan & Bruce Bernhart of Owatonna, MN Jane Tangwall of Twin Cities, MN His mother, Marguerite Rapien of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish his memory include one grandson, Bentley Rapien. Brent grew up in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Sr. High School in 1960. He was employed with Capital Theater in Grand Island before transferring to Capital Theater in Omaha, NE. He moved to Minnesota and was employed with National Tree Expert Company clearing trees for Rural Electric Association. He returned to Grand Island in 1963 after the death of his father and began working for Crescent Electric Supply Company. While working at Crescent he met the love of his life, Sally Ritchie. They married on September 24, 1977, at Grand Island, NE. Brent retired from Crescent Electric in 2009 after 41 years of service. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed following his boys extracurricular activities. He was an avid Cornhusker football fan, and had a passion for classic cars, owning & refurbishing his 1968 AMX, and Corvette. He enjoyed racing, hunting, fishing and was the ultimate handyman.
