David L. Peterson passed away April 3, 2016 following a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday April 7 at Curran Funeral Chapel in Grand Island, the Rev. Sheri Lodel will officiate. Visitation will precede services from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Interment will be Friday, April 8, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska with military honors provided by the North Platte American Legion Post #163 Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Team. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. David was born in 1953 to Willard and Marilyn Peterson (Brown) in Watertown, Minnesota. He and his family eventually settled in North Platte, Nebraska where David attended high school and honed his basketball skills. David went on to play basketball at Doane College for a year before serving in the United States Army. He returned to college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and then spent two years as a teacher before becoming a corporate trainer for Control Data Corporation. David worked at McCain Foods in Grand Island for 19 years before retiring in 2011. He enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, golfing, woodworking, and spending time with his family and pets. David is survived by his wife Shirley of Grand Island; three children: Amy (Dan) Duey of Omaha, Sean Peterson, and Kyle Peterson of Lincoln; brother Dale Peterson of New Braunfels, Texas; step-father Ralph Brown of Slayton, Minnesota; mother-in-law Georgia Frohner of Gretna, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents Willard Peterson and Marilyn Peterson (Brown) and father-in-law Edward Frohner. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
