David A. Gilroy, 85, of Grand Island, NE died Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Grand Island Regional Medical Center. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Robin Bishir will celebrate the funeral mass. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. followed by family greeting friends until service time. Private family inurnment will be at a later time. Dave was born December 22, 1940 in Spalding, Nebraska. He is the son of Ambrose and Alice (Gorny) Gilroy. The family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1942. Dave attended District 55 Dew Drop School and attended country school thru seventh grade. He graduated from Spalding Public School in 1958. Dave farmed with his brother and dad in Cedar Rapids. On August 10, 1963 Dave married Carolyn “Cookie” Kleffner. They lived in Grand Island, NE raising their four children, Mark, Jodi, Rick, and Jill. Dave worked at Sperry New Holland from 1968 retiring in 1996 and he owned and operated Gilroy Carpet Co. for 18 years

Dave was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman; he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing, with his friends. He treasured the company of his dogs and relished watching the sun set with Cookie, over the Cedar River at the family farm, their most favorite spot of all. Dave devoted eight years to caring for Cookie before her death on January 20, 2023.

Others left to cherish Dave’s memory include his grandchildren, Lindsey (Aaron) Rieke, Austin (Jenn) Gilroy, Andrew Gilroy, Gage (Karina) Heintz, Fallon Heintz, Megan (Dylan) Gilroy, and Max Ricono, greatgrandchildren; Rylee Rieke and Tucker Gilroy, nieces; Kerri Zentner, Kim Apker, and Khristine Gilroy-Johnson, sister-in-law; Mary Gilroy.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carolyn “Cookie” Gilroy, brother Ronald Gilroy and sister and brother-in-law, Leon (Norma) Marisch, and niece Kelly Gilroy.
