Daniel A. Wenzl, 76, of Grand Island, NE, died Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Tiffany Square Care Center with family at his side. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, October 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Robin Bashir and Fr. Mark A. Maresh will concelebrate. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Steinauer, NE on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, with a committal service at 10 a.m., Fr. Michael Christensen as celebrant. Visitation will be Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a vigil service at 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Grand Island Central Catholic Foundation. Dan was born July 3, 1948, at Steinauer, NE, the son of Leonard and Arnette (Kerl) Wenzl. He grew up in Steinauer moving with his family to Pawnee City, NE in 1954 and in the summer of 1957 moved to Grand Island, NE. He attended Grand Island Central Catholic graduating in 1966. Dan was united in marriage to Judy Wyatt in June of 1968, in Grand Island, NE. To this marriage two children Tom and Amy were born. Dan later married Joy Brundage, in Grand Island, NE. To this marriage a son Travis was born. Dan worked for Ed Jenkins and Mid Plains Construction before joining Wenzl Construction and Wenzl Concrete Unlimited. Dan moved to California working as a maintenance supervisor for a property management company. Upon his return to Nebraska, he owned and operated Dan's Concrete, where he was known as Dan, Dan the Concrete Man. He took pride in his work often receiving hand written thank you notes from his many clients. Dan learned of his lung cancer diagnosis in 2015. He chose to live by the motto "Think Positive" and in doing so often leaned on such words of encouragement when spoken to him by the Sr. Bernadette and the late Fr. Tom Ryan. Dan retired from the concrete business in 2017. During his retirement, he did side jobs for Bigzby's Concrete and took the title, Bobcat Dan.
Dan took pride in his yard and garden. He thoroughly enjoyed watching the many birds and butterflies that visited his yard throughout the seasons, oftentimes watching from his kitchen window. Many people recognized his red truck with the Spanky 2 license plate as he took his daily drives around town with his comfort dog, Freddie. He was an avid sports fan, especially Husker football, volleyball and Grand Island Central Catholic Basketball.
Dan was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Prime Time, and regularly attended noon mass. He served funeral dinners with a special group of friends. He enjoyed visiting with all of them and shared many laughs.
Dan will be missed by his son, Tom Wenzl (Stacey LaPoint)

Others left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren, Sam Kelly, Ryan Kelly, Alicia Loeffler (James), Maci Santos (Kristian), Isabella Wenzl, Haylee Luna (Alex), Owen Koch, Gavin Wenzl, Tate Shanahan, Asher Webb, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dan is preceded in death by his son, Travis Wenzl, mother, Arnette (Kerl) Wenzl Kalin Capaldo, father Leonard Wenzl, step father, Francis Kalin, step father, Tony Capaldo, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
