LINCOLN – Clifford L. "Cliff" Clegg, 53, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Marty Egging will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel, with a 6 p.m. vigil service. Cliff was born on Jan. 24, 1965, in Grand Island, the son of Harry E. and Evelyn J. (Spiehs) Clegg. He received his education in Grand Island public schools and graduated from Northwest High School in 1983. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen S. Hansen, on Jan. 19, 1984, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. He began working at Monfort's in Aug. of 1983 where he worked as a supervisor until May 2014. He and Karen lived most of their married life in Grand Island. In 1994, the couple moved to St. Libory where they lived until returning to Grand Island in 2003. In 2014, they moved to Lincoln where Cliff worked for Anderson Auto Group until the time of his death. He was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and of St. Libory's Catholic Church while living there. Also while living in St. Libory he was a member of the St. Libory Volunteer Fire Department and EMS squad, having served as fire chief during construction of the new fire hall. He also coached his daughters in softball for many years. Cliff enjoyed to fish and hunt when he had the time, was very mechanical and was an avid Cornhusker and Cubs fan. His whole world was his family. He loved being a husband, dad and papa. He was a very kind and hardworking man. Although a big man in stature, he was a big teddy bear. He is survived by his wife, Karen of Lincoln; children and spouses, Courtney and Jeremy Lewis of Raymond, Kylie Clegg and Eric Barrera of Parker, CO, Cody Clegg of Lincoln and Kaitlin Clegg of Olathe, KS; two grandchildren, Caroline and Henry Lewis and a granddaughter to be born in January; two brothers, Mike Clegg of Grand Island and Robert and Tiffani Williams of Grand Island; sister, Kim Clegg of Grand Island; his mother-in-law, Joan Hansen of Grand Island; sister-in-law and husband, Patty and Joe Kowalski of Loup City; brother-in-law, Gary Hansen of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Marcia and Lyle Allan of Price, UT; and his two beloved dogs, Randy and Zoey. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Elmer and Mildred Spiehs, Eldon Clegg and Hollis Clegg Mahoney; father-in-law, Lavern Hansen; and two brothers-in-law, Allen and Randy Hansen.
