Charles James Harris, 71, of Longmont, Colorado passed away at home, the morning of February 12, 2013. Charles, who was known to family and friends as Jim, was born to Charles Joseph Harris and Frances Mary Curran on July 15th, 1941 in Loup City, Nebraska.
Jim spent much of his childhood in Greeley, Nebraska, and loved to share many fond memories with family and friends. Jim graduated from St. Mary's High School in Independence, Missouri in 1959 and received his degree in Business Administration from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas in 1963. On December 29, 1962, he married Kathleen Frances Rogers in Independence, Missouri.
Jim and Kathleen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July with a reception in Lincoln, Nebraska, surrounded by family and friends.
Jim worked as a corporate credit manager for Vishay in Columbus, Nebraska for over 30 years, retiring in 2001. For many years Jim served as a Minister of the Eucharist at St. Rose of Lima Church in Genoa, Nebraska where he and Kathleen raised their family on a farm outside of town. He was also a member of the International Chapter of the Nebraska Thomas Merton Society.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, and his great passion was making toys for his grandchildren and charitable organizations. He was involved with the Longmont Kiwanis Club Craft Toys for Kids Project and through this organization, many of his creations were donated to children in need around the world. Jim was also interested in gardening, genealogy research, his Irish heritage, farming, wildlife and conservation. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed biographies and history.
Jim is survived by his wife Kathleen and four daughters; Colleen Price, mother of Peter, Andrew and Kevin, Molly Voichahoske, mother of Bradley, Nicholas, and Christopher, Katie Mullin, mother of Haley and Mary and Bonnie Palmer, mother of Sean, Shannon and Sophia . He has been father in law to four son in laws Robert Price, Gary Voichahoske, Michael Mullin, and Bryan Palmer.
Two sisters: Anne Harris of Grand Island, NE, and Mary Christensen (Bruce) of Lincoln, NE and three brothers: Mike Harris and Paul Harris (Mary Kay) of Atchison, KS and Edward Harris (Soyoung) of St. Roberts, MO
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother John(Jack) Harris, and sister Patricia Ballor.
Memorial services will be held March 8th and 9th. There will be a wake service the evening of March 8th between 5:00 and 7:00 pm at the Curran Funeral Chapel in Grand Island, Nebraska. The memorial and burial services will be held the following day beginning at 10:30 am, March 9th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Greeley, Nebraska.
