Charles F. "Chuck" McGowan, 88, of Grand Island, NE, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at CHI Health St. Francis with his family at his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, November 12, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald A. Buhrman will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy Honor Team. Visitation will be Sunday, November 11, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Leo's Catholic Church. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. More details will appear later.
Chuck was born July 2, 1930, at Greeley, NE. He was the son of Thomas and Margery (Whalen) McGowan.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 66 years, Kathryn L. "Kay" McGowan of Grand Island, NE

Kathleen (Frank) Souhrada of Johnston, IA
Dan (Ann) McGowan MD., of Kearney, NE
Shay (Jacey) McGowan DDS, of Grand Island, NE
Others left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren, Michelle (Alex) Klein, Erin (Patrick) Wilkinson, Hanna Souhrada, Haley (Lee) Snell, Harper Souhrada, Jake McGowan, Maggie McGowan, Kinley McGowan, Madelyn McGowan, Ethan McGowan, Evan McGowan, great grandchildren, Max and Felix Klein, Savannah and Miles Wilkinson.
Sisters-in-law, Dee McGowan, Waunetta McGowan, Ramona McGowan.
Chuck attended Sacred Heart Grade School and moved with his family to San Francisco, CA in 1941. The family returned to Grand Island in 1944. Chuck graduated from St. Mary's Cathedral High School in 1948. He played left end on the State Championship football team in 1945. On October 13, 1948 he entered the U.S. Navy serving until his honorable discharge in Seattle, Washington on July 10, 1950. On June 5, 1952, he married Kay Davis in Wood River, NE. Chuck worked for 10 years for United Airlines in Lincoln, Omaha, and Des Moines. He was employed with General Mills as a Sales Rep. for 30 years, retiring in 1995.
Chuck loved spending time with his family, especially the time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed bowling and golf.
He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Saddle Club, Platt-Duetsche Society, and a past member of the Elks.
Chuck is welcomed into heaven by his parents, brothers, Dick, Paul, Bill, Jack, Leo, and a sister Patsy Mattea.
