Obituary

Catherine Jean Piontkowski, 78, of Grand Island, NE, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be Monday, May 21, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. The Most Rev. William J. Dendinger, The Revs Richard L. Piontkowski, Vincent L. Parsons, Michael F. McDermott and priests of the Diocese of Grand Island will concelebrate. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, May 20, 2012, from 4 5:30 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel and continue from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Marys Cathedral, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Jean was born June 10, 1933, at Grand Island, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Francis W. and Catherine L.(Donigan) Still. Survivors of her immediate family include three sons, Fr. Richard L. Piontkowski Jr. of Grand Island, NE Jerry Piontkowski of North Platte, NE Tom Piontkowski of Aurora, NE One daughter, Carol Hagemann of Hastings, NE Two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ronald & Sue Still of San Antonio, TX John Ted Still of Fremont, NE Others left to cherish is memory include nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island, receiving her RN Degree from St. Francis School of Nursing. She married Richard L. Piontkowski Sr. on June 25, 1955, at Grand Island, NE. They lived in Knoxville, TN before moving to North Platte, NE. where Jean was a RN at St. Marys Hospital for 20 years. The family moved to Gothenburg, NE, in 1981 and in 1986 moved to Grand Island, NE. Mr. Piontkowski died October 1, 2006 Jean enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid reader. She was a member of St. Marys Cathedral and the Cathedral Ladies. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, one daughter, Cathy Kwiatkowski (March 28, 2010), and a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Piontkowski (Feb 3, 2012), three sisters, Mary Brunkhorst, Meg Parsons, Ann Duggan.
