Obituary

Catherine K. "Cathy" Cremeen, 59, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at her home with her family by her side. Cathys wishes were to be cremated. A memorial mass will be celebrated, Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. The Rev. Jonathan D. Sorensen will be the celebrant. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 5 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The family requests casual attire for the vigil and memorial service. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Cathy was born August 8, 1954, at St. Paul, Nebraska. She was the daughter of John and Neva (Whartman) Kramer. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Doug Cremeen of Grand Island, NE Her father, John Kramer of Grand Island, NE Her mother, Neva Mesloh of Grand Island, NE One sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Darrel Helm of Sioux Falls, SD A sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Claudia and Gary Schmidt of Omaha, NE Dewayne Saathoff of Grand Island, NE And a special cousin, Jeanne Whartman of Sheridan, WY, and many nieces and nephews Cathy grew up in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Sr. High School in 1972. She began working at Skagway while in high school. She married Doug Cremeen on July 1, 1977 at St. Marys Cathedral, in Grand Island, NE. They lived in Grand Island and Cathy worked for Skagway, retiring after 35 years as the manager of Health and Beauty Aid. She later pursued her second career, working at Eakes Office Plus in the warehouse department, retiring after three years. Cathy always wanted to be remembered as a sun shiny day. She often compared thunder to the angels bowling in heaven. Cathy enjoyed painting and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and loved her Cubs, but her favorite pastime was spending time at the farm in Clarks with family and friends. She will be missed by her two cats Rocky and Spunky. She was a member of St. Marys Cathedral, the Cathedral Ladies, and the VFW Auxiliary, A memorial fund will be established in Cathys name. She is welcomed into heaven by her grandparents, Mary and Wilbur Whartman and Joseph and Cashmera Kramer, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walt and Doris Cremeen, a sister-in-law, Jeanne Saathoff, aunts and uncles.
