Obituary

Bridget Ann Long, 66, of Grand Island, died peacefully April 5, 2025, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island, NE. Memorial Services will be Monday, April 14, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Rev. Andrew Springer will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Bridget wanted everyone to get together after the service to have a good time! Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Bridget was born May 5, 1958, in Grand Island, NE, to Dale and Roberta (Wingert) Willey. Born on Cinco De Mayo, she was destined to be the life of the party.

Bridget began her education briefly attending public school, before transferring to St. Mary's Grade School. Bridget graduated from Grand Island Central Catholic in the class of 1976.

Bridget worked various jobs in Grand Island. A checker a Hinkey Dinkey, Video Kingdom, and eventually worked at Wasmer School as a lunch lady. In 1977 she married Larry Long and to this union one son, Jessie William, was born. Jessie was the apple of her eye and a pain in her butt as she often joked. However, Bridget loved Jessie fiercely with all her heart and he was her whole world.

In June of 2017 Bridget was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Bridget was a warrior went into remission. In 2022 she was then diagnosed with brain cancer. She fought valiantly, living every day with grace, joy, and happiness. She never had the "Why Me?" attitude. Bridget became tired and knew her joy and happiness was with her Lord and Savior. Bridget would like everyone to know, "Don't cry for me, but live as I lived and we will meet again."

Bridget is survived by her son, Jesse Long; siblings, Bert Willey of Grand Island, Kathy (Ron) Arent of Grand Island, Colleen Lange of Grand Island, Peggy (Tom) Hansen of Omaha, Bobbie (Steve) Durham of Grand Island, Mike Willey and Suzi Griffin of Grand Island, Eva Willey of Grand Island, Maureen (Allen) Christensen of Grand Island, Kevin Willey of Grand Island, Brian (Dawn) Willey of Grand Island, and Tim (Missy) Willey of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Dianne Harms of Grand Island; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Pat Willey, brother-in-law Charlie Lange, sister-in-law Cindy Willey, and niece Nikki Buchanan.

The family of Bridget would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to Dr. Crockett and the Regional Cancer Center, Home Health, Right at Home, Tiffany Square Care Center, and St. Croix Hospice for all they have done.
