Brett was born April 26, 1965, in Fullerton, NE the son of Marlo James and Marcia Lee (Smolinski) Shoemaker.  He grew up in Belgrade and later Grand Island, NE.  He attended Cedar Rapids High School in Cedar Rapids, NE.  Following school Brett worked as a farm hand for area farmers.

Brett is survived by his daughter, Stevie Shoemaker

He is preceded in death by his mother, Marcia Shoemaker and a brother, Todd Shoemaker.
