It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brandon S. Connick on July 28, 2026. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Msgr. Mark Huber will preside with Bishop Emeritus Most Rev. William J. Dendinger and Rev. Donald A. Buhrman, and Rev. Charles L. Torpey concelebrating. Inurnment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 31, 2026, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the church with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Your thoughts and prayers may be given at www.curranfuneralchapel.com under Brandon’s obituary. Memorials are suggested to Grand Island Central Catholic Foundation or to the family to support Brandon’s children’s future education. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Brandon was born October 24, 1977, in Aurora, NE. He was the son of Terry M. and Karen A. (Kaps) Connick. Brandon graduated from Doniphan Public Schools in 1996, and attended the University of Nebraska where he received a Bachelor of Arts in History in 2000. Brandon was married to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Stephanie Schaeffer on June 1, 2002, in Grand Island and he had four children with her, Katelyn, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Jack. Brandon loved his family with all of his heart and was heard on a daily basis telling everyone how proud he was of all of his children.

Brandon then attended Creighton University School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate degree, manga cum laude, in 2003. After graduation from law school, Brandon joined Smith, Johnson, Allen, Connick & Hansen in 2003 and became a partner in 2008. Brandon was a respected attorney and a partner of Smith Johnson, Allen, Connick & Hansen in Grand Island, Nebraska where he was known for his commitment to the practice, dedication to his clients, and service to the community. Throughout his legal career, he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike through his professionalism and thoughtful counsel. He was a beloved friend to all who knew him.

Those who knew Brandon will remember him not only for his legal ability, but also for his compassion and the meaningful relationships he built with family, friends, coworkers, and members of the community. His presence made a lasting difference in the lives of many and his legacy will continue through the people he mentored, saved and inspired.

Brandon loved working on various charitable organizations throughout his career including the Central Catholic Development Foundation, Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska, Inc., Greater Grand Island Sunrise Rotary, Habitat for Humanity and Grand Island Riverdogs. Among his many accomplishments, he was a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow, Class of 2006; he was chosen as the Top 35 under 35 through the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and he was a Nebraska State Bar Foundation Fellow.

Brandon’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered with gratitude, admiration, and love.

Besides his wife and children, Brandon is survived by his brother Shad (Tanya) Connick and grandfather, Wayne Kaps.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandmother, Rose Kaps, grandparents, Darrell M. Connick and Frances Prewitt, and uncle, Steve Kaps.
