Obituary

Bill L. Bamesberger, 80, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, in Hastings, NE. Services will be Monday, May 4, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, in Grand Island. The Rev. Sheri Lodel will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the United Veterans Honor Guard, the U.S. Army Honor Team and the G.I.F.D. Honor Guard. Private family inurnment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 4 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Bill was born September 10, 1934, in Aurora, Nebraska. He was the son of William Martin Fred and Ruby A. (Salmon) Bamesberger. Survivors of his immediate family include his wife of 59 years Babe Bamesberger of Grand Island, NE Three sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Joy Bamesberger of North Platte, NE Drue and Beth Bamesberger of Grand Island, NE Brett and Julie Bamesberger of Central City, NE Brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Evelyn Bamesberger of Aurora, NE Sister, Wilma Smith of Crowley Lake, CA Brother-in-law, Lorence Blase of North Platte, NE Others left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren, Bree, Brittany, Shay, Will, Joe, Brady, Shelby and Kiley. Bill grew up in Aurora graduating from Aurora High School in 1952. He helped his father with carpentry work before marrying Rae Jeanne Babe Green on December 22, 1955, in Aurora, NE. He entered the U.S. Army on February 12, 1957, in Omaha, NE. He moved with his wife to Germany, where he was stationed, serving as a military police officer, welcoming their first son, Barry, while there. Upon his honorable discharge on February 8, 1959, they returned to Aurora. They moved to Grand Island when Bill began working for the G.I.F.D. On his off days he worked for Hoppe Lumber and Concrete Co. and Rector Redimix Co. He also work at the Ordinance Plant as a security guard. Bill, with the help of his boys constructed several homes and a fourplex that he later managed as rental property. Bill loved his work but his second passion was his children and grandchildren school and sporting activities. He attended all of them and was their greatest fan. He and Babe loved to travel, cruising the Caribbean and Hawaii multiple times. As recent as last year he traveled with Babe and their son Brett to the Florida coast and back. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Platt-Duetsche, Saddle Club and a life time member of the VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Dillon Ondrak, sister, Marge Blase, his loyal dog, Chopper, and his close friend and fellow security guard, Godfrey Brokenrope.
