Obituary

Beverly J. O'Connell, 83, of Grand Island, NE died Friday, October 28, 2016, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, November 3, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. Fr. James R. Golka will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 2, 2016, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a Catholic Daughters Rosary recited at 4:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Beverly was born January 9, 1933, at Grand Island, NE. She was the daughter of Michael and Edna (Schoel) O'Connell. Survivors of the immediate family include her brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Barb O'Connell of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her nephews and nieces, Brad (Nancy) O'Connell, Byron (Cindy) O'Connell both of Grand Island, NE Sara O'Connell and Von Biesner of Lincoln, NE Paula O'Connell of Columbus, NE Kristie (Jay) Warner of Grand Island, NE Dave (Sarah) Hansen of Bradshaw, NE Wendy Hansen of Hastings, NE Cousins, Ercel and Bernie Schoel of Grove, OK And numerous grandnephews and grandnieces. Beverly grew up in Grand Island where she attended Wasmer and St. Mary's School. She moved with her family to Wichita, KS and while there Beverly attended Mt. Carmel Academy. She returned to Grand Island with her family in 1960. She was the first client at the Adult Day Care and spent many days there while her family worked. She moved to Grand Island Park Place in 2013 and made a new family there. She enjoyed having company, watching old TV shows, playing Bingo, and putting jig saw puzzles together. Beverly was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Ave Maria #1263. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Benita O'Connell, and a nephew, Greg O'Connell. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral or Adult Day Care.
