Obituary

Betty E. Secor Lewis, 89, of Hastings, NE, formerly of Grand Island, NE, died Thursday March 17, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, in Hastings, Nebraska. Bettys wishes were to be cremated. Inurnment will be with her husband in Broken Bow, NE and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Betty was born in Pocatello, Idaho on May 26, 1926. Survivors of the immediate family include her three children Virginia (Steve) Mizel of Charleston, SC, Ronald (Cindy) Lewis and Kevin (Marlene) Lewis of Hastings NE. Four grandchildren she adored, John Lewis, Kyle Lewis, Kristine (Zack) Thompson and Morgan Lewis and two great granddaughters, Cassandra and Katalina, many nieces and nephews and one special grandniece, Lori who always made time for her Aunt Betty. Betty attended Broken Bow High School and Hastings School of Cosmetology. She married Kenneth D. Lewis on January 12, 1945. When Kenneth returned from the Navy they made their home in Broken Bow. In 1965 Betty opened Lewis Floral in Broken Bow. In 1970 they moved to Fullerton, NE where they owned Fullerton Liquor until 1981. During this time Betty became a very talented China painter. In retirement years they enjoyed traveling in their motor home and made several trips to the East Coast. In 1991 they moved to Grand Island, NE where she cared for her husband and later worked for the Edith Abbott Library and the American Red Cross. Mr. Lewis died January 11, 1997. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, floral arranging, china painting and baking for everyone. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 52 years and two brothers.
