Obituary

Benita T. Rosas, 74, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Sunday, November 21, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family. Services will be Monday, November 29, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. The Rev. Jonathan D. Sorensen will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, November 28, 2010, from 4 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Benita was born October 20, 1936 at Zacualpan, Mexico. She was the daughter of Casiano & Susana (Rodriguez) Torres. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Francisco Rosas of Grand Island, NE Six sons & three daughters-in-law, Fidencio Rosas of Grand Island, NE Federico Rosas of Grand Island, NE Agustin & Debi Rosas of Grand Island, NE Raymond Rosas and his friend Marjory James of Aurora, NE Rick & Katie Rosas of Julesburg, CO Simon & Sheila Rosas of Grand Island, NE Four daughters & three sons-in-law, Dolores & Doug Harders of Grand Island, NE Susana Steele of Grand Island, NE Rosa & Mike Fletcher of Grand Island, NE Andrea & Clint Rempe of Grand Island, NE One sister Maria Torress of Mexico City, Mexico Others left to cherish her memory include her 34 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Benita grew up in rural Mexico before moving to Mexico City, Mexico. She worked as a nanny. She married Francisco J. Rosas in February of 1956 at Mexico City. She was a mother and homemaker. They immigrated to the United States in April of 1964. She continued to care for her children later working as a housekeeper at Ramada Inn. She also provided day care at her home. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, flower gardening, cooking and was a huge Kenny Rogers fan. She was a member of St. Marys Cathedral. She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant child, one brother, Jesus Torres and a sister, Lupe Torres. Memorials are suggested to the familys choice. Organist for the service is Elaine Bishop. The St. Marys Parish Choir will sing. Clarinet: Brianna Fletcher will play the Clarinet with Soloist: Nichole Harders preforming Ave Maria Casketbearers for the service will be Clint Westwood ~ Richie Westwood ~ Jeremy Rosas Jorge Carpio ~ Bradly Schmid ~ Jerry Florez
