Obituary

Anita M. Sabatka, 55, of Grand Island, NE, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of the Christian burial will be Monday, December 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski Jr. and Rev. Mark A. Maresh, Fr. Scott M. Harter will concelebrate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, December 27, 2015, from 4 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Anita was born August 23, 1960, at Colby, Kansas. She was the daughter of Charles G. Chuck and Jonnie C. L. (Sledge) Arnold. Survivors of her immediate family include her husband, Ed Sabatka of Grand Island, NE Her father, Chuck Arnold of Plainville, KS One sister and brother-in-law, Loretta & David Studer of Atwood, KS Two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeff and Cindy Arnold of Staplehurst, NE Brian and Casey Arnold of Plainville, KS Others left to cherish her memory include her special nieces, Stephanie, Kristy and Kelly, Goddaughter, Anna Hanquist and her special employee, Betty Kaulk as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Anita grew up in Plainville, KS, attending Sacred Heart Grade School and graduating from Plainville High School in 1978. She continued her education at Colby Community College receiving her Associate of Arts Degree in 1981. She married Edward D. Ed Sabatka on August 27, 1983, at Colby KS. They lived in Colby until 1987 when they moved to Broken Bow, NE. She worked as an office manager for State Farm Insurance until opening Uncle Eds Steak House with her husband Ed. In 2005 they opened Uncle Eds Steak House in Grand Island. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and loving her cats. She was a member of St. Marys Cathedral, Catholic Daughters of Americas, Our Lady of the Plains Court #2098, in Broken Bow and the Broken Bow quilting club where she served on its board. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jonnie Arnold. Memorials are suggested to the Catholic Daughters of Americas, Our Lady of the Plains Court #2098.
