Alice P. Smollen, 77, of Grand Island, NE, died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Wedgewood Care Center. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church. The celebrant is Rev. Michael F. McDermott. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 27, 2015, from 4 7 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Alice was born August 2, 1937, at Grand Island, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Maurice and Margaret (Donnelly) Nealon. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband of 58 years Frank Smollen of Grand Island, NE Sons and a daughter-in-law, Francis Smollen of Grand Island, NE Bob Smollen of Grand Island, NE Dennis and Kris Smollen of Grand Island, NE Daughters and a son-in-law, Trish and Cory Greenwood of Omaha, NE Bernice Gosda of Omaha, NE Sisters and brothers-in-laws, Maureen and Al Smollen of Grand Island, NE Betty and Mick Pohlmeier of Slater, IA Debbie Eckstrom of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Dawn Wentling, Adam Greenwood, Sarah Frazier, Jake Gosda, Alec Smollen, Emily Smollen and a great grandchild Payton Frazier. Alice grew up in Aurora, NE graduating from Aurora High School in 1956. She married Frank Smollen on February 9, 1957, at Aurora, NE. They lived in Grand Island where Alice worked on the line at the Ordinance Plant. She later worked at Woolco and was the domestics department manager at Shopko, retiring in 1996. She was an avid sewer and a huge husker football fan, but most enjoyed spending time with her family and following her grandchildrens activities. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to the familys choice. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, John Francis, sisters, Helen Mudloff, Annamarie Grudzinski, Marcella Murphy and Rita Boeck.
