Obituary

Alice R. Erion, 85, of Grand Island, NE, died Friday, August 19, 2016, at Wedgewood Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 22, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. Rev. Scott M. Harter will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Alice will continue her giving way by bequeathing her body to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska after the services. Visitation will be Sunday, August 21, 2016, from 4 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel, with a Catholic Daughters rosary recited at 4:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Alice was born August 22, 1930, at Columbus, Nebraska. She was the daughter of John and Victoria (Koczor) Grossnicklaus. Survivors of the immediate family include her sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Mary Erion of Lincoln, NE Richard and Lydia Erion of Cheyenne, WY Gene and Dee Erion of Jacksonville, FL Daughter, Cathy Erion of Lincoln, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren Jennifer and Brad Mostek and Philip Erion and a great grandchildren, Kyler, Corbin and Makenna. Alice grew up in Columbus, NE until moving in with her cousins in 1946. She graduated from Grand Island Sr. High in 1948. Alice worked as a typist for the judges of Hall County. She married Gene E. Erion on May 20, 1950 at Grand Island, NE, where the couple lived and raised their children. After her children were grown Alice volunteered at the V.A. Hospital, was an aid for the G.I. Public School Lunch Program, and worked in housekeeping/food service at Golden Living Center Lakeview. Alice gave graciously of her time visiting the shut-ins at Bickford Cottage and Wedgewood Care Center. She generously supplied Camels Cupboard (St. Marys Food Pantry) with much needed food staples. Alice enjoyed camping, dancing, and fishing. She was a member of St. Marys Cathedral, Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Ave Maria #1263, and the Platt-Duetshce Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gene, an infant son, William, and grandparents, John and Katherine Kate Koczor whom, as a child, she lived with for many years.
